Quaver
Pedestrian Bridge
Elective Workshop Course
Kungstorget, Göteborg, Sweden
With Erik Tari & Marcus Abrahamsson
Background
The aim of this workshop was to design a gentle and temporary pedestrian bridge over the moat in-between Kungstorget and Kungsportsavenyn, Gothenburg.
The assignment formed a part in the practice of sketching through physical models, but also in the dialogue of how architects can contribute to the design of the city.
Concept
The concept behind this bridge is based on the idea of contributing something to the city that is more than just a traffic route.
Quaver, the note for a short pause in a musical piece, or in this instance a pause in a movement, offers the inhabitants an opportunity to pause, rest & explore the moat as well as observe the surrounding urban life.
This is all due to the shape of the bridge, which consists of two arches that connects at their breakpoints to create breathing spaces along each end.
The bridge is constructed of cable trusses & cross laminated timber and is supported by illuminated floating devices, which additionally serves as furnitures.
